What book should I read for August? I’m a big rea What book should I read for August? I’m a big reader, though mainly fiction, but I did used to read one nonfiction dog book a month and need to get back to it. One of these days I’ll manifest an amazing dog book club because the more nerdy dog people reading these books, the better! This month’s choices: The Emotional Lives of Animals - Marc Bekoff Our Dogs, Ourselves - Alexandra Horowitz What the Dog Knows - Cat Warren Pick one! For better or worse, I am sometimes (a lot of time For better or worse, I am sometimes (a lot of times?) fueled by spite and rage so this feels like a good message to spread after seeing a particularly bad dog guy go on what was previously a very science-y, good podcast. I fear we will now be entering our ✨summer hiberna I fear we will now be entering our ✨summer hibernation✨ era. It’s just too hot to do life. With the heat wave over the past few days, it was already brutal while it was still dark out at 530am 😭 There were some fun new enrichment activities I wanted to try, but we just didn’t get around to it between the heat and pressure changes giving me a constant migraine 🫠 Another bittersweet reminder of his aging is that he is perfectly happy to do whatever whenever, even if that’s just hanging around and snuggling. Once upon a time, we used to go to a training club for 3-5 hours, walk for a couple miles, and he would still go crazy in the house stealing things and throwing toys at my head because he had energy for daysssss 😭 On a side note I really need to look up camera settings bc wtf is happening with my atrocious picture quality from my phone 🤣 #seniordogs #enrichment #enrichmentfordogs #dogtraining #dogsarelove
I’m obviously grateful for him every minute of eve I’m obviously grateful for him every minute of every day, but this time of year I am especially grateful. For a dog that has been reactive to almost everything and everyone at some point in his life, he has never been bothered by fireworks. And that’s a fun reminder of how bizarre and weird genetics and learning history and life experiences can be. He has all the factors stacked against him that should make him hate fireworks, but for some weird reason he doesn’t care. Maybe because we have so much else to worry about, something somewhere gave us a break from this 😅 I still hate fireworks and feel so much for all the animals and people who feel like their world is crashing around them 😞 #seniordogs #vets #rescuedog
A fun thing about a spiral is that after some time A fun thing about a spiral is that after some time passes, you come full circle and the sting of the pain hurts a little less. And then… you laugh, because it’s important to laugh. So while all the feelings I had weee valid, and having an aging dog is a hard thing, I also realize I may have been a tiny wee bit dramatic at the beginning of the spiral and sometimes you just gotta laugh or else you’d go crazy. #seniordog #seniordoglove #dogmomlife🐾 #dogtraining
Buster’s Weekly Happy List ✨ The weather is so as Buster’s Weekly Happy List ✨ The weather is so astronomically disgusting here that it’s breaking records, and we’re going to be in a literal heat dome 🥵 So we’re staying inside or going for blasting AC car rides. Life is, obviously, much more boring and calm and laid back at home. There’s nothing big or grand happening, but life still happens and continues on. Buster still had a good week filled with happy moments, and that’s what matters most. Introducing my new series,✨Buster’s Weekly Happy List✨ 📝A document of one thing each day that made him happy, no matter how small. I’m getting my planners and things set up for July, and I realized I used to keep a daily happy log for him but fell out of the habit (oops). I now realize I desperately need to start it back up because without documenting things, I somehow think we’ve done nothing other than sleep, eat, and bebop around which just isn’t true. Adventures and grand things don’t happen every day, but remembering that even giving him some of my string cheese or a new toy makes me feel happy knowing he is living a good life, and that’s the best thing I’ve found so far to combat my anticipatory grief. #seniordogs #reactivedog #forcefreedogtraining #doglife
Sometimes I hate the internet because I saw a post Sometimes I hate the internet because I saw a post, and even though I IMMEDIATELY scrolled, I wasn’t fast enough and read the screen that said “imagine this song from the POV from your pet meeting you at the rainbow bridge” And that’s clearly been haunting me because a day or two later, a restaurant was playing it and I almost immediately burst into tears 🫠 So here I am with this video and song and I’m sorry that you now have to picture this like me 😭
