Real support for real dogs with really big feelings

You don’t have to navigate this alone. I work virtually with devoted dog owners whose dogs are reactive, anxious, fearful, or just deeply misunderstood. Let’s figure out what your dog is saying and build a life that works for both of you.

A girl with brown hair and her small dog are staring are on the ground staring at each other, depicting the human-animal bond through their connection.

You’re not failing your dog. You just need someone who gets it.

The stressful walks. The barking land lunging that makes you want to put on an invisibility cloak. The house of Googling that leave you more confused than when you started. The guilt of wondering if you’re making it worse.

I know exactly what that feels like, because I was there. This is the entire reason I became interested in dog behavior. My own dog, Buster, taught me all of this.

This is why I do things differently.

Welcome

Hey, I’m Alix

Behavior Consultant

Fourteen years ago, my dog became incredibly reactive to everyone and everything. He even had some rage syndrome-like episodes. When the options were limited in my own local area, I turned to Google. I know the exhaustion of loving a dog whose feelings are bigger than the world feels ready for, but I also know how wonderful those dogs can turn out with the right care.

Now I help other devoted owners find their way through this, without judgment.

Virtual Training

Work with me from anywhere, on your schedule.

Whole Dog Approach

Grounded in science, built around your dog.

No Punishment

Connection over correction, always. We can create change positively.

I’ve Been There

I’ve been through it too, so I understand how it feels and how to support you.

You’ve tried training before, but this is different. You won’t find this anywhere else.

Most dog training focuses on the behavior – what the dog is doing wrong, and how to stop it. That’s not what we do here.

We look at the whole dog, including their history, environment, emotional state, and more. A lunging dog isn’t being bad; they’re overwhelmed and reacting to a combination of factors. Behavior is information, and when we listen to what the dog is telling us, we can create lasting change.

Is this the right fit?

Who This is For

Does any of this sound familiar?

The owners who get the most out of working with me have a few things in common:

You have a dog with big feelings, either reactive, anxious, fearful, or just deeply misunderstood. You’ve probably tried other things that haven’t really worked. You’re exhausted but love your dog and aren’t willing to give up on them.

You want to actually understand your dog on a deeper level. You’re open to a different way of thinking about what’s happening and why. You’re willing to do the work between sessions, even if it’s slow and imperfect.

If this sounds like you, we’re probably a good fit.

What My Clients Say

Frequently asked questions

Yes! For behavior work specifically, it’s often more effective than in-person training. There are no distractions or strangers (me) invading your dog’s space. It’s just you and your dog while we figure out what’s really going on. Plus, virtual sessions are often far less stressful on the client, which means you’re in a better position to be more effective with your training. There’s no driving or scheduling mayhems with someone coming to your house. It’s just a Zoom link and a time that works for you.

Everything I do is grounded in positive reinforcement and the principles of applied behavior analysis, which is a fancy way of saying we focus on what motivates your dog and build from there. I don’t use punishment, corrections, or tools designed to suppress behavior through discomfort.

Virtual sessions are perfect for busy schedules. There’s no commute or prep, and we can meet at whatever time works for you. You also don’t need hours of dedicated training time a day – just 3-5 minutes a day is perfect. I’ll build my training plans with your real life in mind. The goal is to progress that fits your life.

Yes, this is the heart of most of what I do. Barking and lunging are common problems that are often misunderstood in dogs. I know that it can also cause a lot of stress on you as the owner too. It can be embarrassing and annoying. We’ll work on understanding what’s triggering your dog, building their emotional resilience below threshold, and giving you the tools and skills to actually enjoy walks again.

Like us, every dog is an individual, and this depends entirely on your dog, your goals, and the complexity of what’s going on. Some owners get clarity and traction from a single consultation and their training action plan. Others navigating significant reactivity that’s been building for years benefit from sustained support over several months. If you’re not sure, feel free to book a free 15-minute connection call so we can talk through what’s going on and figure out what level of support makes the most sense for your situation.

I hear this a lot. Most training doesn’t work because it focuses on stopping behavior rather than understanding the entire picture. If your dog is reactive, anxious, or fearful, and previous training felt like you were just putting a band-aid on symptoms without ever getting to the root of what causes them, that’s just a gap in the approach. We start somewhere different here, which is understanding what your dog is actually feeling and why.
